Why FAQ schema matters for AI search
FAQ schema (FAQPage structured data) tells search engines and AI assistants exactly which questions your page answers and what those answers are. When AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews look for answers, they prefer content that is explicitly marked up as Q&A pairs. Without FAQ schema, AI has to infer which parts of your content are answers. With it, they know instantly.
Pages with FAQ schema can also appear as rich results in Google Search, showing expandable question-and-answer dropdowns directly in the search results. This increases your visibility and click-through rate significantly.

How to add FAQ schema to your website
Copy the generated code
Click the "Copy Code" button above to copy your complete JSON-LD script tag to your clipboard.
Paste it on the page with your FAQs
Add the script tag inside the <head> section of the page where your FAQ content lives. The schema should match the visible Q&A content on that page. Most CMS platforms like WordPress, Shopify, and Squarespace have a "custom code" section in their settings where you can paste this.
Make sure your FAQ content is visible on the page
Google requires that the questions and answers in your FAQ schema are also visible to users on the page. Do not add FAQ schema for content that is hidden or only exists in the markup. The schema should reflect what users actually see.
Verify it works
After publishing, test your page with Google's Rich Results Test to confirm your FAQ schema is valid and eligible for rich results. You can also use Schema.org's Validator for a detailed check.
Google's FAQ schema guidelines
- -Only use FAQPage schema if the page has a list of questions with answers. Do not use it for pages with a single question (use Q&APage instead).
- -All FAQ content must be visible to the user on the page. Hidden FAQ content is not eligible for rich results.
- -Do not use FAQ schema for advertising purposes. Questions and answers must be informational.
- -Each question must include the full text of the question. Each answer must include the full text of the answer.
